How much fuel do I burn and how much does it cost?
Fuel consumption calculator - convert between l/100km, MPG US, MPG UK, km/l, plus a trip cost calculator.
Type your car's fuel consumption and see all units live. Add distance and fuel price - get how much fuel you'll burn and what it costs.
Perfect for trip planning, comparing cars (Europe uses l/100km, US uses MPG), expense reports, car-buying decisions.
Everything computed locally - no data sent.
How to use it
- Type your car's fuel consumption and pick a unit: l/100km (Europe), MPG US (US gallon), MPG UK (Imperial gallon), km/l (Asia, Brazil).
- Below you see all other units live - useful when looking at a US car spec'd in MPG.
- In the "Trip cost" section enter distance (km or miles) and fuel price per liter or gallon. Pick a currency (USD, EUR, GBP, any).
- You get 3 results: how much fuel you'll burn, total cost of the trip, cost per 100 km (or per 100 miles).
When this is useful
Seven typical situations where this calculator gives you a concrete answer:
- Trip planning. 500-mile vacation, car does 28 MPG, gas $3.50/gal = $62.50 for the drive.
- Car comparison. European spec "7 l/100km", what is that in MPG? 33.6 MPG US. Now you can compare.
- Business mileage. Mileage reimbursement plus actual fuel cost for the books.
- Buying a car. Two models, one 28 MPG, one 22 MPG. Annual cost at 12,000 mi/yr and $3.50/gal: $1,500 vs $1,909 = $409/year difference.
- Eco-driving test. Drive smoother for a month, check how much you saved.
- Splitting fuel cost. 3 passengers plus driver, split the gas bill evenly.
- Hybrid / EV comparison. Gasoline vs EV kWh (kWh = ~$0.13/kWh × 28 kWh/100mi = ~$3.64/100mi vs gas ~$12.50/100mi).
